The Hives

What if I were still young and hip and this post was about the band? I could talk about how their latest album "Tyrannosaurus Hives" is pure garage punk with kickin' surf guitar and rock solid melodies. I could be all cool and say that, while the album is OK, they're so much better live that there's no comparison. I'm not young or hip though and I just stole all of that from Amazon reviews since I've never actually heard a Hives album.

I'm old and boring now and this is about the other hives. The hives covering Fiona's body and making her itchy and cranky until I drug her into a Benadryl induced stupor. Stupid hives. The pediatrician's office said they could last up to 4 days. Whee.

You've waited long enough...

You'll note the lack of smiles in most of these pictures. Fiona has decided that smiling for the camera is NOT cool.

Fiona's favorite ride was the carousel. Doesn't she look thrilled?

Heard in the car

I'm so lucky. I got my first "You're not my best friend anymore Mommy!" and "You're not my mommy anymore!" both on the way home tonight from a pissed three year old in the back seat. I guess denying said pre-schooler a pre-dinner snack of Lik'm Aid was cruel and unusual.

So tired...

Still recovering from the trip, which was SO much fun. Fiona had a great time at Disneyland except for being terrified of the pirates. And the Snow White ride. And the Alice in Wonderland ride. And Mr. Toad's wild ride. She loved Louie though and he was kind enough to spoil her and carry her around on his shoulders all day. He's probably permanently crippled now, but at least he has a 3 year old fan. When she wasn't clinging to Louie, she was getting lots of love from her Auntie who taught her the proper way to sing along with Eye of the Tiger. Andre mourned the loss of his hipster LA days, when he realized he was definitely no longer cool as he snapped photos like a tourist on the promenade in Santa Monica. We ate 100,000 calories each and are now much fatter. I remembered exactly what I hated about LA - the godawful traffic and people talking loudly about how important they are. I'm so glad we had a chance to have our short little getaway, but it's nice to be back in my city again.

Pictures soon!

Yo ho, Yo ho!

I think I'm more excited than Fiona about our trip to Disneyland this weekend. I'm not even sad that Space Mountain is closed since I can't ride it anyway. Picture gleeful clapping and you'll understand how happy I am about our little getaway. We'll finally get to meet Tamara's mysterious Louie, the no-spice eater. We're having lunch at the Blue Bayou in honor of Tamara's birthday. We're going to be forced to ride it's a small world two or three times, I'm sure. We're also going to get to eat at Canter's deli, one of Andre's favorites from his L.A. years. I only wish we had more time. I'm saving my vacation time for some pre-due-date time off and Andre's hoarding his for post-baby-help-Tavia-from-going-insane time. Anyhow, catch you Monday with some Mickey pics.

Tag, I'm it!

I'm quite excited that I got an actual email at my brand spanking new email address located over there to your right. Ang the Drama Queen tagged me with a music quiz. I'm not a huge music person, I usually listen to NPR in the car and am not very good at picking out new music. My sister sends me mix discs once a year so I can keep up with all the youngens.

1. Total amount of music files on your computer: I'm not sure . I just got an ipod for Christmas and started experimenting with downloading music and ripping my CDs, but then the computer developed a small problem with actually turning on and now I can't figure out how many files are on there.
2. The last CD you bought was: The last one I bought for myself was quite a while ago, The Cold Mountain soundtrack. The last CD I ripped from a friend (please don't report me) was Loretta Lynn's Van Lear Rose.
3. What is the song you last listened to before reading this message? "Tomorrow" from the Annie soundtrack. Fiona got the disk for Christmas. Sigh.
4. Write down 5 songs you often listen to or that mean a lot to you. "Cheek to Cheek" by Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald because that's the song we danced to at our wedding. I don't really know about the rest. I guess they would be the songs that I always put on my mixes to listen to and sing to in the car. These seem to indicate that I'm a big dork: "The Gambler" - Kenny Rogers, "Hotel California" - The Eagles, "Pooh Corner" - Loggins and Messina (I know!), and "Power of Two" - Indigo Girls. I don't think these are necessarily my favorite songs, but I know all the words and like to sing along to them.
5. Who are you going to pass this stick to? (3 persons) and why? Tamara, because she's the only person I know who blogs and whose email address I know. Maybe she'll make Allie do it too.

Happy Velveeta Day!

I'm not really sure who's playing in the Super Bowl. I know for certain there will be football and two teams that I'm not rooting for. If the Seahawks ever made it in, I might feign interest in the actual game, but for now all I'm interested in is the Velveeta dip. Every year, in honor of our national sport (or is that baseball?) we turn on the big event, ignore the game and watch the commercials and stuff ourselves full of the tastiest appetizers we can find. My favorite is the most unhealthy dip ever created, which I only allow myself to eat this one time a year: Mexican velveeta, stewed tomatoes, salsa, and ground meat, scoop up with chips and you have white trash heaven on earth. So go football! I can't wait.

Reality strikes back

I had a midwife appointment last week and seemingly out of nowhere the midwife said, "So, have you thought about what you're going to do for birth control after the baby's born?" Whuh? Huh? Who in the what now? I've just spent the past few months trying not to get too attached to the idea that this baby will actually be born and now I'm supposed to somehow leap ahead and accept a post baby reality? I mean, I just finally wrote my due date in pen in my calendar a couple of weeks ago. I'm having a hard time letting go of the first trimester terror, the words "after the baby's born" are still hard to utter. I guess maybe I need to unwind a little bit and actually try to enjoy this pregnancy before there's an actual baby here. A baby!

Hyper

A combination of no nap and an entire bag of peanut butter M&Ms at the movies made Fiona a complete crazy girl yesterday. She had a conversation with my sister for a while, which quickly devolved into just saying, "Peepee! Poopoo! Peepee poopoo giant!" Who knows what she was talking about. Then right before bed, she had on half of a princess dress-up costume and a hula hoop, marched in front of the TV and announced, "I am the princess and I am going to boogie woogie!" Yeah, we laughed at her pretty hard.

I, on the other hand, am not feeling hyper in the least. I'm having to physically drag myself out of bed in the morning and kicking myself in the ass to actually get myself to work. No motivation whatsoever to actually do my job once I get there and not much desire to do anything but eat and sleep when I get home. And I STILL have four months to go. I am not feeling the boogie woogie.
